Welcome to The Every Day Teach site – I am so excited to finally have a place where I can continue to share my lessons, happenings, and ALL the fun stuff!
My name is Emily and I am a mom, educator, and foodie! I have been teaching Family and Consumer Sciences for 15 years now and currently working on balancing work-life with three little ones at home. FCS is a HUGE passion of mine as I truly believe in the benefit of the every day skills taught within our area. In my spare time you can find me spending time with my family, testing out new gluten-free recipes, and creating resources for family and consumer science teachers and other educators! At school, you can find me struggling to haul in my (very full) teacher bags with a tumbler and cold brew in hand, most likely laminating something for the week (laminator LOVER over here), and doing my best to be efficient at work while still getting my chat on with my teacher neighbors!
When I first started teaching, I spent most of my time just trying to stay afloat. As a FCS teacher, I had five different classes I was teaching in one semester – shout out to my teacher friends who are in the same boat! It was a struggle (and a lot of pressure) to come up with engaging lessons for each class while balancing my heavy workload and teacher “extras”. It took a while to build up my resource library and to determine what my “lesson style” was. I had help from many teacher mentors along the way – all of which have shaped me into the teacher I am today. I want to provide the same thing I was given while juggling my many classes – support, networking, and activities that are easy to put into action!
I love making resources for my fellow educators to save them time and hassle! If there is one thing I have learned over the years it’s that you can NEVER have a large enough library of activities! Being able to keep things fresh and choose an activity that works best for your given class and time.
